The First National Bank of Bowie
February 16,1903 after
an ice storm and before brick streets. Note the
wagon tire tracks in the street and the downed telegraph
pole in center of picture. This picture is also
the present day location of the The First National Bank of Bowie
at the corner of Tarrant and Mason
Streets. Tarrant Street is to the left and Mason
strait ahead. When First National was organized
and opened, it had temporarily quarters in a rented
wooden building. That building is long gone, but
stood in the vicinity of the brick building on the
North/West side of Henry Insurance Agency on Tarrant
St.

The First National Bank of Bowie around 1910. In
the background is the Commercial Hotel.

The
interior of The First National Bank in 1926. Gordon
Cady is seated at the typewriter and Frank Bigger
stands behind him. J. A. Coker, then president,
sits in the arm chair, and David Warren stands behind
him. Jim Fulcher is at the stool at the counter.
We have been unable to find out who missed the cuspidor,
and nobody seems to remember the name of the pelican.
Bookkeeping
January 28, 1927. Pictured left to right are (believed
to be Ermyntrude McNatt, Lester Miller, Gordon Cady,
and Hugh S. Walker). There are three calendars in
this picture. Two on the left side of the picture
(one shows 28th day), one is not legible and another
one is behind Hugh Walker (it advertises Wrigley's
Gum). Through magnification the date appears to
be January 28, 1927 on the original picture. Hugh
walker is the father of Kathryn Whitecotton and
the great grandfather of Holly Jones who is now
Assistant Cashier.
